Litachok Guide

Artist Guide

Context, culture, and expectations for artists who want to perform with Litachok in Black Rock City.

01

What Is Burning Man?

Once a year, around 70,000 people build a temporary city from nothing in Nevada's desert - filling it with art installations, music, camps, and shared experiences. For one week, that city lives through participation, gifting, self-reliance, communal effort, and decommodification. Then it is taken apart again, leaving the desert behind. Burning Man is not a conventional festival with passive spectators; it is a city you help create.

02

This isn’t a festival. It’s a living artwork

People don’t just watch here — they join, respond, dance, talk, and become part of the moment. For artists, that makes performances feel unusually direct, human, and unforgettable.

03

How Performances Work

Many performances happen on moving art cars, pop-up stages, and interactive installations, often without fixed schedules. Sets can be planned, but they also need flexibility - timing, location, and energy may shift with the moment. You are performing inside the city, as part of the city.

04

Performances on Litachok

Litachok is a moving drum & bass art car built as a stage, sculpture, and gathering point for immersive performances on the playa. DnB is our core, but we’re especially excited by artists who want to push it somewhere unexpected — blending it with live vocals, instruments, spoken word, lasers, custom visuals, robots, drones, kinetic objects, or other beautifully wild ideas.

If you have a bold DnB + something concept, bring it. We love performances that go beyond a standard set and turn sound, movement, light, and surprise into a real shared moment.

05

The Vibe: What It Feels Like

Performing on Litachok feels immediate and alive. The crowd is close, the conditions can change quickly, and a set may begin at sunset, deepen under the lights, or emerge from a spontaneous stop on the playa. It is not a polished backstage experience — it is raw, direct, and unforgettable.

06

The Environment (Desert Reality)

The desert is beautiful, but demanding: hot days, cold nights, wind, dust, and constant unpredictability. Expect dust on gear, flexible timing, and a far more raw environment than a traditional venue. Bring what you need to stay hydrated, warm after dark, and ready to adapt.

07

FAQ: Money, gifts, and expectations

Is this a paid gig?

No — Litachok does not pay performance fees or artist honorariums. Performing with Litachok should be understood as a collaborative gift to the city, not a commercial booking.

Can Litachok help with logistics or production?

Yes — we will do our best to help artists prepare, coordinate, and solve practical issues together. We aim to communicate clearly, plan ahead, and help each artist arrive ready for the realities of the playa.

What do you expect from artists in camp?

We expect everyone performing with Litachok to take part in the shared effort of camp life. That includes helping with MOOP (Matter Out Of Place), keeping our space clean, respecting Leave No Trace, and pitching in with small practical tasks when needed.

Are you selling spots in camp?

We are not selling places in camp, access, or a packaged experience. In rare cases, we may invite a small number of non-artist contributors to share real camp costs, but any cost-sharing only covers actual expenses and does not buy lineup placement, status, or special treatment. Everyone who joins Litachok is expected to participate, contribute, and help care for the camp.

Is gifting expected?

Totally optional. If you want to bring something small to gift, wonderful. If not, there is no pressure at all. Your music and presence are already a meaningful gift. Burning Man’s Gifting principle explains that a gift is unconditional and not an exchange.

08

Litachok's Values

We invite artists who care about atmosphere, flow, and connection.

We value participation, respect, generosity, and the kind of collaboration that makes a shared moment bigger than any one person.

We keep the space safe: no hate symbols and no harassment.

And for transparency: we stand with the Ukrainian people and with Ukraine’s right to self-defence against russian aggression. Please respect that.

09

How to Find Litachok on Playa?

Litachok won’t sit in one place. Like all art cars, we’ll be roaming the playa: moving, stopping, and popping up where the moment feels right.

Want to find us? We plan to share an approximate, delayed location map at camp and on this website so people can find Litachok when we are parked or settling into a stop. The map is not real-time navigation and may lag behind our movement. Please do not chase a moving art car; use the map to meet us safely once we are stopped.

10

One More Thing

Black Rock City isn’t chaos — it’s a real city with experienced volunteer teams (including Rangers) and medical services. Look out for each other, and speak up early if something feels off.

Decommodification also matters here: Litachok isn't a promo platform. No brand energy, no "follow me on Instagram" moments, no sales vibes, just presence, art, and connection.

And finally, please keep Litachok safe: no illegal drugs in camp or on the art car (no bringing, using, or distributing). If someone appears unwell or unsafe, we'll encourage them to seek help and we'll contact event support/medical resources if needed. Consent and safety are non-negotiable.

Want to join Litachok?

Interested in performing with Litachok, joining the crew, or bringing a crazy idea to life with us? Send us a short note with your style, your skills, or your concept. We’re centered on drum & bass, but we welcome wild collaborations, bold experiments, and people who want to help make the project real.

We’re an artists-first camp, centered on participation, collaboration, and shared responsibility.
